Survey Finds Identity and Access Management is Most Commonly Deployed Technology for Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 Compliance
WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2004--Netegrity, Inc. (Nasdaq: NETE), a leading provider of identity and access management solutions, today announced the results of a survey focused on Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance. The survey found that the largest overall concern amongst companies today is being able to accurately document and audit business processes to ensure control over financial systems. Identity and access management software was identified as the most commonly deployed technology to help meet Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance followed by business continuity/disaster recovery.Netegrity is discussing Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 status, concerns, and future plans, including these survey results, at a series of executive roundtables to be held across the country during June. Netegrity will also be discussing Section 404 compliance and identity and access management during a Web seminar on June 17, 2004 titled "Accelerating Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 Compliance". To register for the Web seminar, got to the Events section of www.netegrity.com.
Other key findings from the survey include:
-- Identity and access management related issues were among the most significant internal weaknesses that were identified for 2004 Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance: 38% of the respondents consider "Insufficient User Access & Password Controls" to be amongst their top 3 concerns and 36% of respondents consider "Segregation of Duties" to be amongst their top 3 concerns.
-- 43% of companies are deploying identity and access management software this year to support Section 404 compliance.
-- 97% of companies believe it is "very likely," "likely," or "somewhat likely" that they will "pass" Section 404 compliance.
-- Companies are planning to spend money on technology to enable Sarbanes-Oxley compliance: 36% said that they would spend between $50,000 and $250,000 while 26% are planning to spend between $250,000 and $1,000,000.
-- Companies expect to spend as much on technology to enable Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in 2005 as they spent in 2004, with no statistically significant drop off in spending expectations.
The respondents of the survey consisted of over 100 senior IT and corporate management professionals that are knowledgeable about their company's Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance activities. The respondent's organizations had at least 1000 employees (with 50% of the respondent's organizations having over 10,000 employees), annual revenue of more than $100 million, and represented 19 different industries.
"The secure management of users and enforcement of their access to sensitive resources is a cornerstone of the internal controls required by Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404," said Stephanie Feraday, vice president of Marketing. "Identity and access management technology helps ensure compliance with not only Sarbanes-Oxley, but almost all compliance regimes by managing user identities, the applications and resources they have permission to access, and ensuring that consistent security policies are enforced and can be audited across the entire organization."
