Exel and Global eXchange Services to Extend RosettaNet Solutions Across Asia Pacific After Successful Electronic Customs Declaration Implementation in The Philippines

Streamlined Customs Export Declaration Process Results in Improved Cycle Times and Operational Cost Savings

MANILA, Philippines--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 6, 2004-- Global eXchange Services (GXS) announced today an agreement with Exel in the Philippines to provide automated export declaration solutions. Exel selected GXS' On-Demand Services for RosettaNet to enable the electronic transmission of export declaration documents between Exel's clients directly with customs agencies. By enhancing such processes, Exel aims to add value to its clients, creating a competitive edge, as well as improving their own efficiencies.
This agreement follows an implementation of the solution with the Philippines Bureau of Customs. Using RosettaNet's XML-based Partner Interface Process(R) (PIP(R)) 3B18 (Shipping Documentation), Exel can electronically submit export information to external parties such as the Philippines Bureau of Customs and the Philippines Economic Zone Authority.

The RosettaNet solution behind the Philippines Bureau of Customs' implementation is being delivered through GXS' distributor, InterCommerce Network Services. InterCommerce has more than 10 years experience in delivering customs-related solutions to the Philippines market.

"We are pleased to see this extended commitment and collaboration by our members, Exel and Global eXchange Services," remarked Steven Yeo, RosettaNet vice president of Asia. "In partnering to deliver critical solutions that help facilitate trade via the expedited movement of goods, we begin to see greater efficiencies around the eCustoms declaration process. By enabling PIP 3B18, manufacturers, along with their freight forwarders and customs brokers, can send secure, Internet-based transactions directly to the Bureau of Customs' Automated Customs Operating System (ACOS), reducing both clearance cycle times and transaction costs."

Through this agreement, GXS and Exel intend to expand their relationship for other RosettaNet-based projects across Exel's operations in the Asia-Pacific region. GXS and Exel have a successful and long-standing relationship in the area of RosettaNet standards deployment.

"Exel is one of the leading logistics providers worldwide. The enablement of electronic customs declaration will help clients expedite the cross-border movement of goods, where reducing delays associated with customs processes can result in significant cost savings," said Mark Khambatta, director and general manager of Exel. "As a pioneer in electronic customs implementations, Exel is committed to supporting efforts to automate and standardize the customs declaration process in the Philippines and elsewhere. We are happy to work with Global eXchange Services and look forward to future collaboration. As our key solutions partner, Global eXchange Services possesses the vision and capabilities to meet current and future needs as our business expands."

Ben Wong, Global eXchange Services' vice president of Asia-Pacific said, "This agreement is yet another milestone in the region. Global eXchange Services is pleased to be working with Exel to further enhance value and help precipitate the integration between logistics companies, manufacturers, freight forwarders and customs brokers."

Commenting on the relationship with Exel, Wong added, "The expansion of the relationship reflects the fact that Global eXchange Services is an industry leader, and Exel recognizes our expertise in this field. Our close relationship is exemplified by our recent collaboration with Exel during the Global RosettaNet Conference 2004 in Singapore. During this event, Exel and Global eXchange Services conducted a highly successful cross-border demonstration of Global eXchange Services' solutions using a single 3B18 PIP - an industry first in Asia, which was previously limited within borders."
