Date 10/9/2003 12:00 AM | Topic: NewsLuther College President Richard L. Torgerson will present Luther Distinguished Service Awards to 16 alumni on Friday, Oct. 10, at an awards ceremony during the college's annual Homecoming Weekend celebration.
The Luther Distinguished Service Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by the college, is given in recognition of success and achievements in professional fields, contributions to community, and loyalty and support of Luther.
Recipients of the 2003 DSA awards are:
Karen Davidson, New York City, deputy director of the Museum of Modern Art, a 1973 graduate of Luther College.
Desiree M. Kempcke, M.D., St. Paul, Minn., orthopedic surgeon, a 1983 graduate of Luther College.
Art Lee, Bemidji, Minn., professor emeritus of history, Bemidji State University, a 1953 graduate of Luther College.
Warren Luckner, Lincoln, Neb., director of the actuarial science program, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a 1968 graduate of Luther College.
Bruce MacInnis, Asmara, Eritrea, country director for Save the Children Fund U.K., a 1968 graduate of Luther College.
Dale R. Noble, Honolulu, Hawaii, retired choral music director and teacher, a 1953 graduate of Luther College.
James A. Nussle, Manchester, Iowa, and Washington, D.C., United States Congressman representing Iowa's First District, a 1983 graduate of Luther College.
Anthony Preus, Binghamton, N.Y., professor of philosophy, State University of New York-Binghamton, a 1958 graduate of Luther College.
Alex Rowell Jr., Chanhassen, Minn, clinical sales specialist with Medtronic, Inc., a 1968 graduate of Luther College.
Rebecca J. Rush, Houston, Texas, wealth management advisor with Merrill Lynch, a 1973 graduate of Luther College
J.W. Reinertson, M.D., Marion, Iowa, retired pediatrician, a 1948 graduate of Luther College.
Robert Sathe, Cincinnati, Ohio, officer with Sagemark Consulting/Lincoln Financial Group, a 1968 graduate of Luther College.
Susan E. Oberman Smith, Stillwater, Minn., vice president of corporate actuarial with Thrivent Financial, a 1983 graduate of Luther College.
Larry P. Solomonson, Lutz, Fla., professor and chair of the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of South Florida, a 1963 graduate of Luther College.
Carolyn L. White, Verona, Wis., piano studio owner/instructor and retired music teacher, a 1961 graduate of Luther College.
Larry Winter, Thousand Oaks, Calif., senior financial consultant with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, travel and tours business owner, a 1983 graduate of Luther College.
