The trade agreement limits textile exports to the U.S. through 2008, relieving trade tensions between the two nations over which textiles had been a major area of concern to the United States. The agreement, which took almost a half year for the two countries to work out, caps Chinese exports to the U.S.for the next three years for products such as cotton pants andknit shirts. Of the 34 Chinese products coveredin the trade agreement, the 19 largest product lines were already capped under current U.S. restrictions. The trade agreement nowgoes into effect Jan. 1st.
