Conference to Showcase Region's Biotech Companies

Stock Option Trading By WTN News • 09/08/03 MADISON - Life-saving science and cutting-edge business opportunities will be on display at the 20th Wisconsin Life Sciences and Venture Conference, to be held Nov. 3-5 at Madison's Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center.

The conference will be produced by three leading technology groups, the Wisconsin Technology Council, the Wisconsin Biotechnology Association and the Wisconsin Innovation Network.

In the first full day of the conference (Tuesday, Nov. 4), selected companies from across Wisconsin will tell their stories to venture capitalists and other private equity investors. It's not a Wisconsin-only event: Companies from neighboring states may submit applications to present. The theme of Day One is "Where Equity Meets Opportunity."

"As the nation's venture capital and private equity market improves, this is a chance for investors to preview life science opportunities in an emerging regional market," said Tom Still, president of the Tech Council.

In Day Two of the conference (Wednesday, Nov. 5), attendees may attend about a dozen presentations ranging from drug development for human medicines, breakthroughs in agricultural biotechnology, bioinformatics and the emerging partnership between biotechnology and medical device industries. There will also be a poster contest for Wisconsin undergraduates in biotechnology fields. "Science Focused on Saving Lives" is the theme of Day Two.

"Wisconsin scientists are increasing providing biotech and medical device solutions to human health care problems," said Ron Kuehn, executive vice president of the Biotech Association. "In addition to human health, our agricultural scientists are helping save lives and protect the environment with new products that increase yields and minimize pesticide use."
