Exxon Mobil Earnings Before Items Rise On High Energy Prices
Stock Option Trading Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM.N) on Thursday said quarterly earnings before items rose, setting a record on higher energy prices, richer refining margins and increased oil and gas production.
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) hit customers today with their second price rise of 2006. Domestic customers will pay an extra 16.5% on average for their gas and 9.4% on average for their electricity. Davies, Energy Supply Director of SSE, "The impact of high wholesale energy prices can only be absorbed for so long and we have delayed this price increase for as long as possible."

The price rise will come into effect from 13th March 2006. However EDF Energy did have some good news for customers. Online plans which are offered through price comparison services such as uSwitch.com will not be affected by this price rise. Customers who are on capped or fixed products will also not be affected. EDF Energy cited in their press release that "soaring wholesale costs" had forced them to make the price rise.
Forex Day Trading Irving, Texas-based Exxon said first-quarter net income fell to $5.44 billion, or 83 cents a share, from $7.04 billion a year ago, when the company had a $550 million benefit from an accounting change and a $1.7 billion gain from selling shares of Germany's Ruhrgas AG.
